About Us

His Holiness Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji has been spreading the importance of social service as a means to reach divinity. Sri Swamiji's activities go far beyond the social sphere. He is revered as a great Yogi and Saint and has held numerous inspiring sessions all over the world. The Ashrama in Mysore, South India is known for practicing the Ancient Vedic traditions and Sri Swamiji's social activities are many. Under Sri Swamiji's guidance, Datta Peetham and it's many branches have supported numerous social projects since it was founded. These include Food, Education, Shelter, Job training and free Medical help to the poor. Currently the home for the destitute women Amma Vodi in Hyderabad run by the Ashrama, shelters needy women in their twilight.

The main motto of these services rendered here is not limited to the mere redressal of the physical needs and sufferings of the inmates but it extends beyond to help them in experiencing the sense of divineness and equality in all the people around them including those that were not liked by them earlier. This special service is becoming possible due to the serene and sublime surroundings which are centered around the temples of lord Dattatreya, Ganapati, Mother Rajarajeswari and other deities and adored by the special Herbal gardens specifically chosen by Sri Swamiji.

A major portion of the service rendered in this center is from the volunteers of Datta family. As a result of which the services are not merely mechanical, not routine but full of dedication, determination and devotion. That is why the age old inmates that enter these premises are feeling more happy in these surroundings than the houses of their kith and kin.

Smt Jaya Lakshmi, mother of Sri Swamiji
Smt Jaya Lakshmi

Smt Jaya Lakshmi, the divine mother of Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji hails from a remote hilly and forest area of Karnataka state on the banks of river Kaveri in the Kanakapura district. The place is called Mekedatu or Sangama which even today is a deep forest area and it was more fierce seven decades back when Jaya Lakshmi as an young girl was jumping and dancing across the rocks of those small hillocks which were housing scattered huts of forest cultivators.

It was from that time that the girl was continuously helping the women folk of the area which mainly belong to the lambada caste of the forest tribes and was trying to educate them in her own humble way. Due to her own intrinsic spiritual standards her social service transformed soon into spiritual achievements and she had had the benefit of direct Darshan of Lord Dattatreya at a tender age of 16 when she was still a girl.

Later by the divine command of Lord Dattatreya, she became the better half of Sri Narasimha Sastry and her residence was shifted to the then Bommeparty a backward village in the remote areas of Ananthapur district, Andhra Pradesh. The whole area at that time was so backward and the ladies there were subjects of many superstitions because of their illiteracy and other social conditions.

Master Satyanarayana

Smt Jaya Lakshmi in a short time has become a friend of all the ladies of the area irrespective of their age and soon became a household advisor to all of them. This experience again added a new dimension to her already matured spiritual achievements which were infact transferred to her dear son Master Satyanarayana around the year 1954. By that time master Satyanarayana was only 11 years old but because of the command of the destiny, Smt Jaya Lakshmi Mata handed over all her spiritual skills and capabilities to her son and left the mortal body leaving all her future plans in the tender hands of her son.

Master Satyanarayana has developed himself into Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji by the year 1964 and established Sri Avadhootha Datta Peetham to translate His mother’s dreams into reality. A major part of Smt Jaya Lakshmi Mata’s plans and dreams were devoted to the upliftment of the women flock in distress and this vision of Smt Jaya Lakshmi Mata has inspired, motivated and guided Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji to establish this sprawling Amma Vodi project at Hyderabad.

As a deserving and dedicated son of His divine mother, Sri Swamiji has carved this project as a happy blend of spiritual and social inputs. The objective is to achieve a society which does not require services of this sort, which does not provide room for this type of destitutes and a society which does not differentiate between the rich and the poor, the men and the women in the process of providing the minimal needs.
